Hema Kapoor Abrol

I am a proud professional of Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi where I completed my MBBS and MD in Microbiology (1976-1988). I started my consultant appointments from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for first four years following which I continued at Safdarjung Hospital for another eight years. In the midcareer, I completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Biotechnology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi followed by another year of post-doctoral fellowship in Molecular Microbiology at Mayo Graduate School Rochester in 2001-02.

I joined as a Manager of Virology at the Michigan Department of Community Health in 2002 and then moved to Pennsylvania to join Quest Diagnostics in 2004. In seventeen years of my career at Quest, I covered the journey from Technical Director to current position as a Senior Medical Director for Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Global Diagnostic Network where I am leading Quest Diagnostics’ strategic planning and program for Emerging Infectious Disease prevention and control. Most recently, my work was recognized by Dr. Anthony Fauci who accepted his medal on behalf of all U.S. healthcare team members for their immense contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I am a diplomat of American Board of Medical Microbiology and an active member of the American Society of Microbiology, Infectious Diseases Society of America, European Association of the Study of liver, Hepatitis B forum and Viral Hepatitis Elimination Plan for Pennsylvania.

I was born in new Delhi, India in a family of 5 siblings (one brother and three sisters). Right from middle school, I aspired to be a physician and joined LHMC in 1976. I got married in 1981 during my internship and have two daughters, a son and three grandkids. My other interests are cooking, travelling, and networking.

My Vision

“I am at a juncture at life where after raising three kids and at the peak of my career, now looking forward to dedicating my time to LHMCAANA. My vision for LHMCAANA is to bring visibility of our Alumni to every incoming Hardonian and put programs in place that make them feel at home when they transition to US and experience it ongoing.”

Life is the best teacher and I have learned a lot from my experiences.
