LHMCAANA Melodies is an international group of music lovers that includes singers, listeners, and instrumentalists who immerse themselves in music and have bonded through the universal language of melody. The group currently has 155 members, and it continues to grow as we receive new requests to join almost every day. The club was launched on September 28, 2021. We maintain an active WhatsApp group, where members share recordings of songs and encourage one another to sing and participate. Over time, these interactions have developed into strong friendships. Whenever members from the United States travel to India, social gatherings are arranged with our enthusiastic members there. We meet every two weeks via Zoom for a themed musical gathering, aptl called Mehfil. Prior to each Mehfil, members share their song selections in advance on a WhatsApp chat group called “Choices,” based on the theme selected by the Mehfil’s master of ceremonies, Neelam Kohli, now an honorary Hardonian. She is an outstanding singer with an unsurpassed knowledge of many genres of music. She conducts our Mehfils artfully weaving the selected songs into a narrative, making each program exceptionally engaging and enjoyable. Since Neelam K is not always able to participate in every Mehfil, several members have been groomed to serve as MCs in her absence.
To help organize each Mehfil, we have appointed eight managers who take turns compiling the song list. Dr. Param and DR. Lily are the leads of the group and others who help are Sunita Jain, Nalini Tandon, Krishnaveni Dhir, Shashi Gururaja, Poonam Dewan and Manju Barik. Each of these managers can conduct a Mehfil and have done so.
A special highlight of our gatherings is the presence of Dr. Chandrama Anand, who continues to charm us with her graceful presence and beautiful singing voice. She has also generously shared her knowledge of Reiki with members of the group.
As the LHMCAANA board has evolved and streamlined its rules over the past three years, membership in the Melodies group is now limited to dues-paying members of LHMCAANA. On April 25, 2026, we completed our centenary and conducted our hundredth Mehfil with great enthusiasm. A special highlight of our gatherings is the presence of Dr. Chandrama Anand, who continues to charm us with her graceful presence and beautiful singing voice. She has also generously shared her knowledge of Reiki with members of the group. Sadly, we lost of one of our beloved members, Renu Durbari, whose presence we deeply miss. As the LHMCAANA board has evolved and streamlined its rules over the past three years, membership in the Melodies group is now limited to dues-paying members of LHMCAANA. Our singers are from USA, UK, India and Singapore. The Mehfil themes have included: Sunil Dutt, Madhubala Dev Anand, Sahir Ludhianvi and Bimal Roy. Our creative MC Neelam Kohli weaves our songs into a story about the Bollywood personality. In March we had a surprise birthday celebration for Neelams K’s birthday. Dr. Neelam Batra (UK) serenaded Neelam K with a Happy Birthday song in Sanskrit!! Home grown MC’s Lily Agarwal'77, Paramjit Kochhar'70 hosted a Mehfil themed Spring, Geeta Kadyaprath'87 & Lily hosted Barsaat themed Mehfil and, Manju Barik'79 & Radha Ramarutham'81 hosted a Mehfil themed Rishte' and relationships other than lovers… Dr. Chandrama Anand our beloved teacher’s birthday was felicitated by a surprise happy birthday song. Dr. Anand is a wonderful singer and attends all the mehfils and is deeply appreciated by all. Our WhatsApp chat group is very busy with shares of songs, travel and family pictures. It feels like a big extended musical family. Many of the members have started writing poetry. |
