Poonam Alaigh

I am a Research Professor at the University of Pittsburgh and the President and CEO of Alaigh Care Associates, a leading national healthcare consulting company committed to creating innovative, sustainable, system-based transformation, including during the COVID pandemic. I am a board-certified internist specializing in vascular diseases and a Master of Science in Health Care Policy and Management at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, NY. I am a certified black belt in Six Sigma business management strategy, a recognized national healthcare leader, and have authored several publications. My career has included:

  • Executive Vice President of Corporate Development for Remedy Partners, leading collaborative partnerships, key investment opportunities, and innovative solutions to facilitate the adoption of value-based payment models nationwide.
  • Acting Under Secretary for Health at the Department of Veterans Affairs, where I directed a healthcare system with an annual budget of approximately $70 Billion, overseeing the delivery of care to more than 9 million enrolled Veterans. VA, the nation's most extensive health care system, operates more than 1,200 care sites, including hospitals, community-based outpatient clinics, nursing homes, domiciliaries, and 300 Vet Centers.
  • Co-founder of one of the first and largest ACOs in the country, the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization in NJ, with 350K members, 100K Medicare beneficiaries, five hospitals, and 2500 physicians.
  • Commissioner of the Department of Health and Senior Services of New Jersey, with oversight of a department with 1700 employees and a budget of $3.7B that was responsible for health care policy, public health, senior care, and quality with regulatory oversight responsibility of all the healthcare institutions in NJ.
  • Executive Medical Director at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield New Jersey, responsible for operations in all the major clinical areas to ensure quality, cost-effective healthcare delivery for its members.
  • National Medical Director for GlaxoSmithKline led the collaboration with health plans on national issues, including health care technology, reduction of disparities, and improving access in the under/uninsured population.
