Shashi Gururaja

I joined LHMC in 1973 and graduated in 1977. I have had a long career in Medicine in the Govt. sector since 1981. After training in Transfusion Medicine at the Institute of Immuno-Haematology, ICMR at KEM Hospital Mumbai, I rose through the ranks working in different capacities at GIPMER, in New Delhi in a career spanning 34 years. I was the HOD of the Blood Bank at GIPMER when we pioneered a blood component separation facility amongst Delhi Govt. Hospitals followed by another first of setting-up “Apheresis“ procedures for Donor Plateletpheresis, therapeutic Plasmapheresis, and Therapeutic Cytapheresis. I was elevated to Additional Medical Superintendent and finally to the position of Medical Superintendent of GIPMER. During my tenure as Medical Superintendent, I oversaw GIPMER’s role as the Nodal hospital of the Govt. of Delhi for round the clock care for the Commonwealth Games. I also oversaw the expansion of GIPMER super specialty care to Emergency care, creation of Modular Operation theaters, up gradation of outpatient care including modernization of Laboratory services & Blood Bank. I retired in July 2015. I received several awards from NGO’s and the Delhi Medical Association. Finally I also received Delhi State Award for meritorious service.

My love for music has followed me through my childhood, Medical College and professional career. I was able to take formal lessons in Hindustani classical music from the prestigious Gandharva Mahavidyalay, New Delhi & I obtained the degree of “Sangeet Visharad” in 2005.

Music has no boundaries, it helps the world to steer through pain, grief & losses; the therapeutic effects of music are acknowledged world over!

I see the LHMCAANA Melodies as a meeting point of medical professionals where nothing but music flows day & night; because of its global nature, the club is truly a 24 hour live channel, wherein members live & breathe music.

I envision the gradual unlayering of musical energy between members creating respect & admiration for each other as emotional bonds grow deeper. This bonhomie could result in us collectively giving back to LHMC, our Alma Mater, in innumerable ways which could be tangible or intangible as we offer role models to our impressionable current students.
