VENITA SAROHIA (nee PARMAR)

As a child, I played many roles as a doctor in school plays, so my parents encouraged me to pursue this career, and I landed at LHMC in 1966. I explored the world of medicine and healing and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

I Grew up in Lucknow, graduated high school and college at Loreto Convent, and college then onward to LHMC.

What stands out is the excellent groundwork for medicine instilled in me at LHMC during my formative years; it proved invaluable in the US. I married an Indian Caltech graduate student in 1972 and, within a week, landed in Los Angeles and have been here ever since.

After completing a Pediatric residency at the University of South California, I worked as a pediatrician at the LA County Health Services. The latter part of my career centered around detained youth at the Juvenile Court Health Services run by USC at the time. These were adolescents and kids aged seven to 19 with multiple medical and mental health issues. This work was rewarding as doctors positively influenced their turbulent lives in numerous ways.

I retired in 2022 after 40-plus years and am now a tenured faculty at my next job!! - four grandkids. I am now enjoying a few things I never had free time to pursue as much as I wished- reading, gardening, yoga, dance, music, and more.

I’m glad to be an LHMCAANA member. It has become an invaluable resource for past and recent Hardonians in the US, providing networking, guidance, and avenues in multiple spheres. It has paved the way for safely giving back to our alumnus for equipping us for this medical journey.
