Daya Sharma

Joined Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) in 1954, graduated in 1959, DCH in 1963 and MD Pediatrics in 1966. Awarded FIAP 1994 and FAAP (USA) 2009. Appointed as faculty member in Pediatrics department of LHMC and Associated KSCH in 1967. Retired as Director Professor and Head of Department of Pediatrics in 1994.

Appointed consultant to Integrated Child Development Services program from 1981 to 1994. It was the largest child development project in India. I led a team of doctors in my department to conduct training courses for Medical Officers and Child Development Project Officers.

Organized several courses on Diarrheal Disease Control, Acute Respiratory Infection Control and Immunization Programs for Government of India and WHO. Played active role in Polio eradication program. A certificate of appreciation for commendable contribution was given to me in 1995 by Government of India.

Actively participated in various WHO programs like Planning and Management of Expanded program of immunization. Participated in WHO sponsored workshops on “Teaching of Human Development in the Undergraduate Medical Curriculum” in collaboration with Department of Anatomy. Teaching material developed in these workshops is used for teaching undergraduate students in India.

Nominated by Government of India to participate in international seminar “Better Delivery of MCH Care in Rural Areas” at Yangon Myanmar. SAARC seminar “Rural Child” Dhaka Bangladesh 1988. International Symposium on Public Health in Asia and the Pacific. Theme reaching the unreached. Leadership in child survival Djakarta Indonesia.

Received various awards and appreciation. Gauri Bajaj Malik award for research in Immunology. Gold Medal by IAP UP chapter for excellence in service of IAP and care of children of nation in 2004. Health awareness award for selfless service to humanity.

Worked with Exam Master corporation both as author and editor for preparing for test for medical students (USMLE) and residents for USMLE and Board certification for physicians.

Elected as President of Indian Academy of Pediatrics Delhi branch 1986 and President IAP Ghaziabad branch in 1999.

My vision for Outreach Committee

  • The outstanding work being done by the Outreach Committee should continue.
  • All graduates of LHMC wanting to come to USA for further studies or for working here may register with LHMCAA and their biodata can be transferred to LHMCAANA.
